I am interested in starting a dog toy product line. What qualities do you look for when purchasing a toy? What are the best dog toys currently on the market? Why do you believe these are the best toys? What do you think should be changed about dog toys that you own?
Durability is the number one thing I look for in a toy. My westie can destroy most "tough" toys in minutes, so I've learnt to tell when a toy is worth the money! I don't mind getting the occasional toy that I know he'll enjoy shredding, but it has to be cheap as chips...so value for money has to feature as well. If it's advertised as tough, I'll pay a bit more for it if it looks like it will genuinely be tough. If it's a standard toy, I begrudge paying that much for it. If I could find a tough toy that's not boring and dull, ideally with a squeak, that'd be awesome! I love Kong toys, they seem to stand up to playtime but they're expensive! And if they're durable, the ability to wash them would be ideal too.
Welcome to the forum, btw! What kind of toys did you have in mind to start with?
Thanks for the feedback. I would like to make a toy that is durable, safe, and engaging to dogs. Some of the most durable toys my dog has had are the Kong toys and Jolly Ball. The most engaging toy my dog has had was the Kyjen Hide-A-Squirrel Puzzle Toy for Dogs (it is just not as durable as I would like).
Puzzle toys can be hit and miss with mine - I think the modern ones are getting there, but the older ones are only of interest for a while...once they've figured it out they quickly lose interest. So a puzzle toy that you could up the ante, so to speak, would be a really good invention; at the moment, I can change things up using simple cups and a ball or treats, or a cupcake tin and a tennis ball...so why would I pay out money for something that won't engage my dogs as long?
Hi Newbie, lordy I would love to see a good selection of indestructable dog toys my dog can destroy most toys within minutes hence she doesn't have many but loves her tennis balls. Welcome to the forum too, look forward to hearing lots more from you.Kristina
