Hi guys well I am a bit distraught here,Xena had what I think was a little FIT on Sunday and thinking about it I feel it was not the only one she's had twice before but so minute almost disregarded, but noticed.Months in between and always after training school never at home or on a walk or even down the woods.Last Sunday we were late getting to school road was shut and I had to detore making us 10 mins late so when we arrived she went straight in to class as she is getting older the training is getting harder but bless her she works her socks off and she was good. There was no agility this week so after school had finished I had a coffee and thought well the field is now empty so will just give her a good run and play round.Met up with a lady and her lovely Spaniel Marley who asked to join us of course that was fine,Xena and Marley had a lovely time just running round.Marly and her mum got into there car and Xena just fell on her side and her little legs were paddling!!!!!!!!! for maybe 3 seconds but enough time for me to know that some thing is not quite right here!!!! I am going to monitor her for the next 2 weeks she has been fine since just herself a good walk down the woods today played with her friends as norm, garden play walk tonight no problems.Kristina
Oh no Kristina, that is a worry. Hope it doesn't happen again but if it does try and get as much info from it as possible eg how long it lasts, eye activity, is she aware of you, things like that .......keep a diary of each one so you have as much info and pics or videos if possible to help vet determin the possible cause. Good luck.
it does sound unusual, best to make a diary of anything similar and draw similarities in, fun, excitement, time of day, depleted energy levels etc.. could be a drop in blood sugars after such high activity? or cramp?

Will be doing that Adrianne have done bucket loads of research too,I personally feel she just gets too hyper after an hour of controlled training then let loose it some how triggers some thing also body heat??? She has been fine since Sunday done her usual stuff no problems at all,but it does'nt happen every time, indeed months in between these episodes but always after school? I had a German Shepherd that had full blown Epilepsy and it was awful he started before he was a year old at 4yrs I had him PTS as fits were terrible and dangerous,Xena's funny turns are nothing like that, they last just seconds and like I said the first 2 were almost insignificant, but I noticed. Collies I have read are prone to these little episodes also Labs so I have a true cross here, but I will watch her and not put her in a situation to cause these turns I may even pull her out of school and agility too,I will just see how she goes.I am away this week end so Connor will looking after her he has his instructions too. Of course I am worried about her she is like my child now and we are so close but for now I am just going to moniter her and see how she goes before I take it any further.KRISTINA
I feel because of the brain activity - and given her young age that she is almost having 'sensory overload' - in puppies it is known as the zoomies or FRAP -frenetic random activity period, basically learning has taken place, enjoyment has been had, play, speed .. a jolly good time...the brain will produce glucose with so much input and glucose goes to every cell in the body either that or it is even possible that she is just good old fashioned exhausted..and her behaviour on the first occasion inadvertently may have been rewarded by your concern and attention?
(I would be worried too if it was my boy

:)Thank you Adrianne I very much agree with you on that possibility for the cause of Xena! s funny turns, not too sure on what to do about it ? She has been very close to me today more than normal not sure why, I have cut down a bit on the excersize and when she meets her friends in the woods limited her play time with them too, basically I am giving her a bit of a rest , and will just see how she goes .Kristina
That must have been scary! It does seem a bit too coincidental with these episodes always being after school, I'd be leaning towards FRAP or something. But like the others have said, make notes of when they happen, how long they last, what you've done immediately before...maybe even what she'd eaten on the days that it happened. It could be too much fun and playtime and not quite enough food so her blood sugar level drops.
... i forgot Xena has collie in her I haven't come across it in anything other than border collies and hence the name - but I think Xena had an episode of BCC - Border Collie Collapse no need to panic, not much is known about the condition - google BCC for as much info as I know, its not threatening to any brain cells and cortisol production does not increase so she is not frightened.. I would just be aware of it and keep her away from swimming at times when it could arise - for fear of an attack whilst out of reach and possible drowning.

just picked up on your replies and that makes perfect sense, have yet to google this myself as only just got on here, well did see this very late last night but was way too tired to get back to you.I do believe that yesterday Xena almost had another funny turn but I could not be certain and we were on our way back from the wood walk. She had been running around after the squirrels and playing with other dogs for about an hour and 20 mins then we met up with her favourite friends all at once so she was well excited,I knew she was tired and although she had another 10 mins playing like a nut bag I called her up and as I did so I felt she sort of totally relaxed as in all wobbly, all over the place,I just held her and stroked her telling her to calm down,it was hard to tell whether or not it was a Funny turn but I felt it could have been the beginning of one!! hope this makes sense,2 mins later she was fine but tired. The video Jordan is very similar as I have noticed too that after so many ball throwing times Xena will just lay down like she's had enough, the thing I did notice was the foot thing like the collie stumbles well thats what Xena does she starts to stumble on her front foot, and thats the first thing I noticed the first time it happened. Also I now feel is why at fly ball she will only go around 4-5 times then will just lay down and the agility course too she will do again 4-5 times around the course then just refuses to do any more perhaps she knows herself thats it's enough for her.All the other dogs just keep going but not her,now I feel terrible for making her do this stuff and she will not be doing the fly ball, agility well maybe for a couple of rounds and that will be it,gutted in a way as she is soooo good at both but I want her safe and happy and no funny turns, and as for the swimming well thats a good no go too although she just loves the water will just keep to puddles I feel.
Thank you both so much for this information xxxx you are wonderful friends.Kristina
