Well today we went from bad to worse!
Domino has broken his front right elbow joint. I let him out front onto the grass slope for the toilet this afternoon and he started to run then let out the most horrific scream that lasted ages. He rolled down the slope, then tried to get up and couldn't.......still screaming. Raced over to him and hugged him till he quietened. Then tried to ascess what the damage was. Felt the swelling and the joint move so feared the worse and carried him in and called the vet out. Its was the new vet so she didnt know his history but she was very nice and after examining him gave him something for the pain and sedation to get him in the car and over to the surgery for xray. It showed the humerous has split in two down the middle. Aparantly this is down to a known spaniel condition where the bone doesn't form properly and over time can have little splinter breaks and weeknesses develop so one day it just gives completely without any cause like a collision or fall. So as its a major thing to fix it we had to take him to Edinburgh 45min journey away to see the orthopedic surgeon who tells me if its in one elbow it will probably be in the other that being the left which is very lame just now so he may need to have an op on it too to prevent it from breaking. They'll give him a CT scan tomorrow to see where they need to put in the pins etc then do the op hopefully tomorrow as well.
While hes there the neurologist will try to ascess him best she can with his broken leg and get his MRI done as he still has the seizures and the back leg lameness to account for. The cause of this break is just another problem to add to all the rest he has it might not even be the reason for the front leg lameness.
Fingers crossed everyone.............if this goes wrong he could lose his leg.
