I mentioned in a post earlier this week that i was thinking of taking Domino to an event for the first time and see how he coped, well today was the day.
The local rescue centre was having a fun day to celebrate their birthday and for once it was held near a bus route so i was actually able to get to it. I was just getting ready to go for the bus when the thunder and lightning started so we held off and hoped it would stop in time or we'd be drenched by the time we got down the road to the bus station. Didnt fancy a 25 min bus journey soaking wet and freezing cold. Thankfully it did stop and more importantly stayed dry for the whole event bar the odd sprinkle.
I wasnt sure how things would go but i needent have worried it was brilliant. Domino surpassed all expectations. Had the halti harness on ( not that it makes a jot of difference if he gets over excited!). He was walking nicely and relaxed just a little in front and took meeting all the dogs in his stride never seen him so relaxed in meet and greet. i was truly amazed and relieved. I counted over a 100 dogs of all shapes and sizes, including quite a few spaniels. It was going so well i even entered him in a couple of the novelty dog show sections..........that was a first for me too!!! Boo Hoo we never got placed, there was 20 dogs in both his categories and the judge didnt like spaniels! She definately favoured the big dogs. He even was happy to have people come up and say hello and pat him on the head ...........he usually cowers back from that. So all in all i'm really pleased i went. Great experience for him and now i know how well he did we can plan to do other activites, getting overexcited when the grandkids arrived was his only fault he started pulling cause he wanted to play but he was happy to settle down when we stood watching the dog ring.
Glad to be home though............boy this dog show business is a long slow process. Time to put my feet up!
