I have sent off a saliva sample to have it DNA tested to see what breeds Dibby is . I know they are considered unreliable but I think it wil be an interesting experiment ! The sample is sent to America and I should have the result back in two to three weeks .
I adopted him nearly 11 years ago , he was found in Slough so I have no history of him. I thinki he was born in the late nineties , and he is only 10 inches high . I dont think he is a "designer" dog. I have had so many people ask what is he( and is he a puppy!) and it would be nice to know. Most people guess at Chihuahua and Jack russel . I think he is papillon and something . The DNA test wont be able to tell me if he is JRT but I would like to know if he is chi or pap. I dont think he has a chi head .
Oh gosh, I can definitely see chi in there - his eyes as he's trotting towards the camera look very chi-esque. He seems to have some of the form of a JRT too, but obviously scaled down!
yep i'm seeing jrt Chihuahua ... chi in the muzzle length and eyes also in the shape of the curvature of his back and bottom, plus size, be interesting ...probably there is more in the mix than just two. sweet little pup.

They are both beautiful, once upon a time I wasn't too partial to Chihuahuas, always been a big dog breeds fan...chi's were not so popular back then, and I never really worked with any ...in more recent times I have worked with more and more and they are the 'biggest dog' around, fabulous personalities, really bright, interactive.. i get excited when I get the chance to work with them these days.

Thanks chistina , they are cute and sweeet natured too.
Adrianne , Chi aren't one of my favourite breeds either , I never thought I'd end up with them .
So the results are back !
But some suprises and I cant say I wasn't warned. -
"The computer .....predicts the most likely combination of pure and mixed breed dogs in the last three ancestral generations that best fit the DNA marker pattern observed in your dog . "
"Level 3 ; each breed listed represents between 20 -36 % of your dogs DNA . This category usually indicates that the listed breed came from a pure bred grandparent"
So "drumroll"
Dibby is
Level 3 Cav King charles Spaniel
Level 3 Italian greyhound
Level 3 Minature poodle
Level 3 Petit basset Griffon vendeen.
Uh?
Yeah , a bit disappointed , really was expecting to see chi or pap there but I'm still glad I got it done.
After I got the results, I was walking dibby along the street and a car pulled up and a couple wanted to know what breed he was , I just burst out laughing and said he's a mixture dog !
Goodness thats quite a mix! Had to look the last one up, never heard of it. I think you can see Italian greyhound in the face. Hes lovely whatever he is!
You know? Now that it has come back with that, I can definitely see some of the Italian greyhound - like Jordan said in the face especially. Would not have guessed Miniature Poodle in a million years. Cav King Charles? Hmmm, maybe actually, in the eyes.
I see mini poodle in the muzzle now and the rounded eyes! the griffon was a surprise, so too the spaniel...why so small Dibby? that's quite a mix. all lovely dogs and dibby is a lovely combination ..unique.... an "Italian King Petit-poo"
