Think of your favourite walks....what makes them good? Do you like walking through woods or along roads?
Do you like to have a destination to walk to and from?
Do you like there to be interesting things for you to look at, or your dog to see/sniff?
For example, my favourite walk takes us to the local shopping centre by footpaths that run through the woods by the estates and around the local playing fields.....conveniently, there is a Costa there So we either stop for a nice coffee in the sunshine, or we grab one to go and continue on our walk. From there, we cross the road into the local woods, and there's a bridal path that goes all the way through the wood, then through some farmer's fields, then loop back to meet the end of our road. It can take anything from an hour to nearly 2, depending on which route you take through the wood. There's lots for Sara to sniff at, muddy puddles when it's rained, and it's really pretty for us dog slaves too!
My favourite walk is any of ones that takes us as far into the countryside as possible, just me, my dog and nature wall to wall! It can have woods, rivers or fields as long as its isolated from people and places Im happy! Domino is happy anywhere as long as he can run and play. I like the peace and the memories of these walks, its relaxing and stress free, gets me ready for the rest of the day. I also like Domino to have walks where he meets his doggy friends to give him the socializing he needs and lots of fun and training so we do more public walks as well.
Hate going a walk that means turning back and going home the way we came, thankfully there are loads of circular walks around here. Most of them are on tracks or country roads and lots of lovely little woods to explore. Id never survive town walks every day.........too noisy and too stressful. Don't think Domino would like a lot of town walks either as he gets worried meeting dogs and I think his colitis would flare up again.
Cupar has two country parks that he loves, we have to drive to them both, but each takes a couple of hours...one is open fields, woodlands and countryside with views that span Lanarkshire to the South, West Lothian, and across the Forth road bridges to the North, It is open to the public but not popular with families, used mostly by dedicated dog walkers and runners and cycists just. The other is a famiy friendly one and is used more by horse riders and a lot of us trainers use it - it has a fast river flowing through it so the dogs love it, And then there is Bootsies favourite place - the beach at South Queensferry under the forth bridges... I like driving somewhere to then go for a walk.

Well Xena's favorite walk is the woods she just loves running free and meeting all the other dogs too,I to have to drive there but it's only about 10 mins, too far for me to walk there and then around the woods for an hour and then back home I could not do that now.I would love to take her to beach about an hour away from me and it's on the list of places to take her in the future.I try to walk her in many different directions from where I am but the footpaths are terrible some you just can't get through and the ones you can go nowhere.Kristina
