Had this asked of me and I just don't know the true answer Why does a dog tilt his ( or her ) head from one side to the other when looking and listening to you Does some breeds do this more than others does your dog do it, crash does and it is quite funny but I don't think he sees it as being funny lol
When a dog barks and wags its tail at the same time how do you know which end to believe
Sara and Scrumpy Jack both tilt their heads sometimes. With Scrumpy, it's if we're alluding to the "W" word - even without saying it, he knows what we're talking about. Sara doesn't do it too often, she's more of a "stare at you until you say a word she understands" kind of girl...and her stare can be really unnerving!
this is he answer I keep amongst my notes .. filed under 'why do dogs...?'
The head tilt, - not actually fully understood by research yet, probably signifies your dog’s attempt to make sense of what she hears.. some experts believe that dogs tilt their heads when they think there is a possibility that what is being said could lead to something important to the dog. Since dogs can understand some human language, including words and tone of voice, a head-cocking dog could be concentrating on picking out a key word that relates to that favourite activity. So your dog may cock her head when you start talking about a walk or a bath or playing a game — whatever it is she loves doing most...it certainly focusses on attention on the dog when she does it.. The way dogs hear plays a part... Dogs have movable earflaps that help them locate the source of a sound. In addition to moving their ears, the dogs brain can compute small time differences between the sound reaching each ear. Even the slightest change in the dog’s head position relative to the sound will supply information the dog’s brain uses to work out the distance of the sound.” So, when a dog cocks her head, she could be trying to more accurately determine the exact location of a sound,
