Bomb it up and down the living room with excitment after having a bath? Well i'm presuming its excitment cos he must feel good haha bless him, its so funny! He must feel like a million dollars!
Technically known as a Frap but more commonly known as the zoomies
When a young dog gets a lot of sensory information ( sensory overload) the body can produce glucose which needs burned off and gives them instant energy to do so - usually happens just before bedtime after a new experience or very happy day mostly in pups under adolescence but even an old dog can have a moment or two now and again some trainers will tell you the dog has too much energy ( not enough exercise) and still needs to burn it off... Not well informed enough Trap stands for frenetic random activity period I asked a puppy for some self control excersises today the pup didn't understand and tried as much as she knew to see if that was what I wanted - it triggered a Trap as she had so much going on in her head, she was working so hard mentally

Cats do this too - often when it's windy - so sensory overload makes sense. They sometimes do it after using the litter tray maybe the sensory overload then is the pong

.. see, I didn't know cats did it too... puppies also have tantrums, a bit like a frap, but esp when they have been corrected- they can bite really hard with frustration..just like a small child that really wants to hit its mum with all its might and runs at her with a raised arm..it uses a lot of energy and is often an emotional outburst...do kittens do this too?

Kittens (and cats) when overstimulated by petting or playing will turn onto their back as though wanting a tummy tickle but will sooner or later grab the hand with their paws and or teeth and kick and bite. It's obviously triggered by over stimulation. Some owners allow it and think it cute when the kitten is a kitten but then later complain about their adult cat's behaviour when it attacks hands or bites. I am involved in a current Bristol cat study and some of the questions ask if whilst playing with your kitten you allow it to 'stalk' your hands and your feet or if that is a game you play with your kitten - I assume because they are studying why some cats attack hands and feet with a view to educating owners not to encourage this behaviour!
Thank god Dodge does not do them anymore . . . would be ever so tricky in the mobile home he did when he was a puppy, scared the bazuccas out of me once as he crashed right into the wall with one enormous yelp . . . thought he broke his leg the way he was holding it !
I thought it was last burst of energy before bedtime too . . . thank you for explaining Adrianne
