This is a cause very close to my heart, as they brought Sara into our lives. There are many smaller charities that work alongside K9, such as Little Angels Rescue BG, and it was from one of these charities that Sara came to us from.
K9 Rescue is an international dog rescue charity specializing in helping disadvantaged rescue teams and independent rescuers primarily focused on saving sick and injured street dogs in need from Bulgaria where they are seen as vermin by the majority and treated accordingly with poisoning, beatings and torture. Through funding and backup support, we are committed to helping our partner rescues in Bulgaria save, medically treat and re-home dogs into good loving homes in Western Europe.
I've meant to ask before, but how did the transport of Sara go? I've always thought I'd quite like to adopt from Europe, but then you have the advantage of being at the bottom of the country, and well, I'm not
Do they help travel the dogs north if need be? It's an awful long way to travel for me, to collect a dog then come back, if you see what I mean. I know a lot of rescues require you to meet with the dog before adoption.
She came over in a van, in a crate, with a couple of other dogs. Her adoption fee covered the travel costs, but as we were initially only fostering we didn't have to pay for anything at first (although I made a donation anyway). They've got a few fosters in Scotland already, and they'll transport wherever the dog needs to go; sometimes the van will meet with a volunteer who'll finish the journey to the foster/forever home. They will bring the dog as near as they can
We didn't meet Sara beforehand, and when we decided to adopt her because I know Michelle we never had a home check. I don't think most require you to meet the dog beforehand, purely because of the logistics! But there's always support if the dog turns out not to be a good fit, and they'll arrange for a new foster as soon as they can.
And if you ever decide to adopt from Europe, you know we'll happily be their first stop and help however we can
