Cant say there has been any change to the seizure activity and with only another week or so to go till the bag of food is finished I doubt there will be an improvement, so now, with the possibility of Domino having Lafora disease, we move on to introduce yet another new diet of Hills BD (brain diet). The vet has to order it in for me so might be another week before we start on it and hopefully it will show some positive results with the seizure activity (and not cause Dominos colitis to kick in again)
Hi Jordan,
I dont know how your getting on at the moment but i just thought id let you know that this company supplies the Hills BD and you can order off the net. My mom has a cat with an under-active thyroid so she buys her special medicated food from there.
I found these guys for my mom as they sold what she wanted a bit cheaper than the vets and its less hassle as they deliver to your home.
Thanks Lizz, I shall keep this in mind and if things do progress it would be good to have some advice from someone dealing with this first hand. I hope your friends dog continues to improve on the lower doses. There was no mention of any other drug other than Keppra for Dominos type of epilepsy. Does your friend know what causes her dog to have epilepsy?
HI Jordan, sorry for the late reply.
Hope you are all coping as well as you can.
Unfortunately, my friends dog, Humpfrey Hamilton won't really improve. His condition is mainly managed but as long as they go for months with out him fitting they seem to pay for it by getting all those missed seizures in the space of a few days. MY friend is not sure what she would prefer. One or 2 a week, or months clear then all coming in one weekend.
I don't think anyone really knows what causes epilepsy. Coincidently, my other half also suffers from this condition. In humans I think it is far more manageable and he does not have fits at all, but has to take a medicine called Epilim twice a day.

Domino new brain diet has arrived and i have started to introduce it into his meals so by the new year we should hopefully start to see some improvement in the seizure activity. Fingers crossed everyone!
Wish i had some good news but 10 days into Domino being totally on this brain diet there is no improvement at all in fact i'm seeing more pronounced activity when he has a seizure and that is everytime he rests and they can last through the night. Starting to get worried things are heading in the wrong direction and at quite a rapid rate considering its only been 6 months or so since i first became aware something was wrong and seizures were barely noticable and occasional. Still got about half the bag to go so maybe in a couple of weeks things will improve. Keep them fingers crossed!
Not really Kimmikins just that if no improvement while on this BD diet then he would have to move onto medication not sure if thats instead of or as well as BD. So I guess they must expect an improvement within 4 weeks or so. Still early days but not confident its working.
you are going to have to trust them to make the best choices as to if he goes on medication and when, I would be curious to know what experience the vet has had with this in the past

There is another dog with this condition, but with seizures when awake, that is being treated at my vets practice so I think they are quite informed with the condition. I'm dealing with the same vet that treated Jordan so I feel confident he knows whats what.
Just a week since last update and not good news. Domino has had some very bad seizures so I've been in touch with the vet to discuss progress or lack of it!.
He said he would have expected to see improvement after a couple of weeks so as things have deteriorated we can assume the brain diet isnt working and hes prescribed the drug Keppra. I've to finish the bag of food as well but then change to a good quality light diet of rice and fish that will be easy for him to digest and hopefully not cause any more colitis.
Domino is on 250mg one tablet twice a day for a month to see if they work for him. i certainly hope they do ..........running out of options.
